Thruster System Performance

The arrangement of the thrusters, along with the performance of each individual thruster combine to form the total propulsion system performance. Below is a table showing the maximum force and moment capability along and about each of the vehicle axes.

Table 2-7 Propulsion system performance data

These figures using maximum symmetric output for each thruster (5 lb.), along with the length of the moment arm about each axis. Moments about the roll axis have two different moment arms, one is 30", and the other is 28.5". Moments about the pitch have two thruster pairs with a moment arm of 30", and yaw also uses two thruster pairs but the moment arm is 29". The force capability in the x direction is greater because 4 thrusters are devoted to motion in that direction instead of the 2 that are assigned to the x and y axes.
