Hand Controller Simulator Reader Manual

There are many input devices that may be used in control station applications. Since only approved SSL input devices can be used, a hand controller simulator was developed so that any operator could use an input device requiring only the shared object libraries for XForms. To activate the shared memory version of the simulators use one of the command lines below.

>io_reader hcasim 0 shared
>io_reader hcbsim 0 shared

After loading the following window will appear.

1- Z Translational Slider

This slider will move the input up and down

2- Translational Positioner

This object allows 3DOF position control moving the crosshair simultaneously move the X and Y Sliders. The Z motion is induced by the mouse button.

Left mouse button = No Z input occurs

Middle mouse button = a positive Z input as designated be the Z fixed rate occurs (for the above figure 0.5 rate).

Right mouse button = a negative Z input as designated be the Z fixed rate occurs (for the above figure -0.5 rate).

3- X Translational Slider

This slider will move the input forward and back

4- Yaw Rotational Slider

This slider will rotate the input in yaw

5- Rotational Positioner

This object allows 3DOF rotational control moving the crosshair simultaneously move the Pitch and Roll Sliders. Yaw motion is induced by the mouse button.

Left mouse button = No yaw input occurs

Middle mouse button = a positive yaw input as designated be the Z fixed rate occurs (for the above figure 0.5 rate).

Right mouse button = a negative yaw input as designated be the Z fixed rate occurs (for the above figure -0.5 rate).

6- Pitch Rotational Slider

This slider will rotate the input in pitch

7-Roll Rotational Slider

This slider will rotate the input in roll

8-Hand Controller buttons

These buttons appear on the hand controller used in the lab, activating these will have the same effect as actually hitting the hand controller buttons.

9- Z/Yaw Fixed Rate Inputs

These input fields allow the use of alternate mouse buttons to control the third degree of freedom using the positioners. The input field should be from 0 to 1.

10- Spaceball Buttons

These buttons appear on the Spaceball used in the lab, activating these will have the same effect as actually hitting the Spaceball buttons.

11- Y Translational Slider

This slider will move the input left and right.
