Served as Vice President of a volunteer organization providing emergency communications for the American Red Cross
Participated in local disaster relief efforts in unfortunate events such as train wrecks, airline crashes, and large apartment fires. Provided emergency radio communications (before the advent of cellular telephones), and aid to individuals at the scene. Additionally, participated in American Red Cross national disaster readiness simulations by providing national radio communication from portable radio equipment, and antennas, using emergency power.
