2.3.2.3 Rotational Buoyancy Compensator (RBC)

To adjust Ranger NBV's rotational buoyancy, the RBC system can shift lead weights along each axis of the vehicle. There are five RBCs on the vehicle. Each one consists of a sealed tube that contains a lead weight that can be automatically positioned along its length. Since the tubes are sealed, there is no change in the vehicle's center of buoyancy.
